Dallas Cowboys give status update on Tony Pollard
There’s some good news coming out of Dallas to start the week. After being a game-time decision and missing Sunday’s game against the Washington Football Team, Tony Pollard is likely to be available for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.
Jon Machota of the Athletic took to Twitter to share the news.
“Cowboys RB Tony Pollard (foot) has a good chance of returning against the Giants next Sunday. He was a game-time decision yesterday. Team is feeling better about where he’s at after having a week off,” Machota wrote.
The Cowboys rushing attack struggled without Pollard against the Washington football team. Starting running back Ezekiel Elliott did play but is still dealing with a lingering injury. Against Washington, the Cowboys rushed for just 122 yards portal. Elliott led all Cowboys rushers with 45 yards on 12 carries.
On the season, Pollard is the second leading rusher for the Dallas Cowboys. In the 12 games he’s played in, he has rushed for 602 yards on 107 attempts with two touchdowns. He leads the Cowboys this year in rushes for 20 yards or more with four and has the longest run from scrimmage this season at 58 yards.
In the Cowboys’ Week 5 matchup against the New York Giants, the one-two punch of Pollard and Elliot ran all over the New York defense. Pollard finished that game with 14 carries for 75 yards averaging 5.4 yards per carry.
Dallas adds receiver to COVID-19 reserves list
The Dallas Cowboys added receiver Cedrick Wilson to the COVID-19/reserves list Monday, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. He is expected to miss their game Sunday against the New York Giants.
Wilson returned from an ankle injury this past Sunday against Washington after missing Week 13 against New Orleans. He caught both of his targets for 18 yards as the Cowboys won by score of 27-20.

Dallas has face plenty of COVID challenges in recent weeks, including when coach Mike McCarthy missed Week 13. He returned Sunday against Washington to help the team claim its second straight victory.
With the Washington win, the Cowboys (9-4) further distanced themselves in the NFC East standings. If the season ended today, Dallas would be the four seed in the NFC, taking on the Los Angeles Rams in the first round.
With four regular season games left, Dallas finds itself in a tight race for the top spot in the NFC. It is currently behind Arizona (10-2), Green Bay (10-3) and Tampa Bay (10-3). The Cowboys face the Cardinals on Jan. 2 with an opportunity to close in on the No. 1 seed.
Other than that, the remaining three of their final four games are against NFC East opponents. Assuming they win those, they’ll be in prime position to take a top playoff spot.
