The legal process is still occurring with Kelvin Joseph regarding his possible involvement in a fatal shooting taking place in late March. The Dallas Cowboys’ second-year cornerback has been cleared of being the actual shooter but an investigation is still ongoing as offseason workouts begin.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy was the latest from within the organization to comment on the situation after the first day of rookie minicamp. He said the Cowboys wanted to make sure they had an internal in-depth conversation on what was the best course of action regarding Joseph. In the end, he thought supporting the cornerback was the best course of action.

“I understand the concern, and I just want you to know that when the situation occurred, we had a lot of internal conversation that was really in-depth,” McCarthy said. “Based off the information that we’ve been given, we felt it was important to support him.”

As for how the legal investigation would impact Joesph on the field, McCarthy would only comment on what the cornerback has done this offseason. Nothing about the future was mentioned by the head coach.

“He’s been here every day and he’s having a very productive offseason so far,” said McCarthy.

Joseph was selected in the second round by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL Draft, coming out of Kentucky. He began his career in his hometown of Baton Rouge with LSU but made the transfer from within the conference to play for the Wildcats.

During his first season in the NFL, Joeseph played in 10 games and started in two games. With the legal situation pending, he is expected to have a bigger role this season for the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones comments on Kelvin Joseph

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones commented on the Joseph situation for the first time on Tuesday, saying there is no update. He said Joseph has been active on the team, working toward getting ready for the 2022 season.

“It’s under investigation,” Jones said. “I don’t know any more than I’ve seen written. I have no information that impacts his status this time of year. He’s very active and involved in getting ready for the upcoming season.”

Commenting before the NFL Draft kicked off, Jones was adamant that the investigation will not change how the Cowboys approach their draft board, especially at the cornerback position. They ended up taking a cornerback in the later rounds but will be a developmental project.
