Dallas Cowboys hire Brian Schottenheimer as new head coach

The Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching search took many turns but after weeks of interviews and speculation, there’s a conclusion. The Cowboys have hired Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schottenheimer is replacing Mike McCarthy, who mutually parted ways with Dallas after five seasons and three playoff appearances.
Schottenheimer is stepping into arguably the best opening on the market with a talent-laden roster in “win now” mode. Team owner Jerry Jones actually declared the Cowboys as “all-in” for the 2024 season, though injuries derailed them. Dallas finished 7-10, missing out on the postseason.
Quarterback Dak Prescott, linebacker Micah Parsons, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, receiver Brandin Cooks and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown all missed time with injuries. Prescott notably suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 but plans to be back by the start of OTA’s with no restrictions.

Cowboys head into new direction under Brian Schottenheimer
Schottenheimer will hopefully bring a spark to Dallas, though Parsons believes it’s up to the players to establish a winning culture.
“As one of the leaders of this team, I’m gonna be looking forward to accepting all challenges and embrace whatever comes to help lead my team to a championship. We gotta move on,” Parsons said after the Cowboys parted ways with McCarthy. “We can’t think about the past. … There are no setbacks. Some of the greatest players learn to adjust.
“… At the end of the day, coaches can only do so much. Us as players, we got to build a winning culture. I said we’re gonna hold the [Super Bowl] trophy because I believe in our guys.”
