With Trevon Diggs locked down through the 2028 season, the Dallas Cowboys have turned their focus to other young stars who need extensions this year. Top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is potentially next on the list, but according to team owner and general manager Jerry Jones, there’s been little movement.

“It’s there,” Jones said of the contract talks on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, via Jon Machota. “Those conversations could be going on … Right now our minds are on going to play San Francisco and I’m sure that’s where his mind is as well. … His future contract is in my thoughts.”

Dallas exercised the fifth-year option on their former first-round pick this offseason. If they stick with it instead an extension before 2024, they’ll owe him $17 million for next season.

Lamb caught his first touchdown of the year on Sunday against the Patriots. So far on the year, he has 23 catches on 30 targets for 309 yards. He’s leading the Cowboys in receiving yards but he’s 12th in the league through four games.

According to Lamb this offseason, he’s not keeping close tabs on the negotiations.

“I told him he has full range,” Lamb said of his agent in July. “I just want the best of the best as far as the best for me and make sure everything is right. And when it’s right, just come let me know something.”

Lamb, drafted No. 17 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, has been the league’s eighth-most productive wide receiver through the last three seasons. He had 3,396 regular-season receiving yards, along with 21 touchdowns from 2020-22.

Though there weren’t major wide receiver extensions this offseason, players like D.K. MetcalfDeebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin signed last year. They all signed three-year extensions ranging from $68 million to $72 million. Before them, Cooper Kupp signed for three years, $80.1 million.

Cowboys eager for another crack at 49ers

Jerry Jones stacked the pressure even higher on Sunday while talking to reporters about the Sunday rivalry game against the 49ers. He said playing against the 49ers, especially because they’re 4-0, will feel like his squad is playing for “all the marbles.”

If the Cowboys do beat San Franciso, their odds to win the Super Bowl will undoubtedly rise. They currently have the fifth-best odds behind the 49ers, Chiefs, Bills and Eagles (in that order). As they’re the visiting team on Sunday, it’s no surprise that Vegas has the Cowboys as 3.5-point underdogs for the SNF game.

“Here it is!” Jones said after Sunday’s win against the Patriots. “A win against the Niners would feel like you’re playing for all the marbles in the NFL. When you play against a team that is undefeated as we play them, we’re going to come in there and try to stay on the field with them.”
