Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones gives Dak Prescott update

According to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott is all systems go for Week 1.

“Good to go,” Jones said when asked about Prescott on the Cowboys pregame show. “He turned it loose and was none the worse for it.

“The MRIs are showing all systems go. He’s throwing with velocity … throwing with emphasis.”

Additionally, Jones mentioned that he believes the Cowboys took the correct route in easing along Prescott through the summer.

“I think we really have done the right thing easing this along,” said Jones.

Evidently, Jones’ words are music to the ears of Cowboys fans everywhere. With huge hopes relying on Prescott’s health in 2021, Jones’ team will be operating at full strength to start the season.

Jerry Jones echoes Kellen Moore

Earlier this week, Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore also updated us on Prescott’s health.

Moreover, Moore confirmed that Prescott is no longer facing limitations, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota. Prescott is coming back from a severe ankle injury in 2020 and has been limited in practice since July 28 with a sore shoulder.

“I thought he looked great (yesterday),” said Moore. “We’re fired up. We’re not looking at anything from a limitation standpoint.”

The report came just days before the Cowboys final preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, Jones is echoing said report in his pregame interview.

Dak Prescott’s Preseason

Multiple reports have indicated that Prescott wants to play preseason, with his final chance coming today against the Jaguars. Another report suggests that the Cowboys are leaning toward holding Prescott out of all preseason games to keep him healthy.

“We’ll see how the week goes, but there’s no urgency from my perspective to see Dak play against Houston,” McCarthy said earlier this month. “This is more about we don’t want to create a setback possibly. His volume of throwing leading up to that point, I mean, he was probably in midseason form from the amount of work he put in over the summer, coming out of the OTAs. Just trying to get that volume back to where it belongs.”

He continued: “I think his volume throwing, getting the capacity back to where he was is the No. 1 thing.”

The Cowboys primary focus has been preparing Prescott for the regular season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dallas will play in the NFL’s Thursday Night Kickoff on Sept. 9 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
