Dallas Cowboys workout former Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson

The Dallas Cowboys struck gold in the 2021 NFL Draft, seeing linebacker Micah Parsons fall into their lap with the 11th overall pick. But they still need some depth at the position and are making some late off-season moves to help improve the roster.

After officially signing Christian Sam on Friday, the Cowboys also hosted former Texas Longhorns linebacker, Malik Jefferson, for a workout. Jefferson was a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and played for the Indianapolis Colts last season. Jefferson was cut on May 10, once again making him a free agent.

Cincinnati drafted Jefferson with the 78th overall pick before being released before the 2019 season. Cleveland went on to pick up the linebacker but lasted less than three months with the Browns. Since then, he has been on the practice squads of the Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee Titans.

In total, Jefferson has appeared in 35 NFL games, with Los Angeles giving him the most opportunities. Jefferson has 16 career tackles, with 10 coming during his rookie season with the Bengals.

Coming out of high school, Jefferson was ranked a five-star prospect by the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting services. He was the No. 2 linebacker in the country and enjoyed a three-year career in Austin.

Dallas Cowboys make two signings official

The Dallas Cowboys made a couple of roster moves on Friday afternoon, announcing the official signings of kicker Lirim Hajrullahu and linebacker Christian Sam. There was already a spot available for Hajrullahu on the roster, while Devante Bond was placed on injured reserve to make room for Sam.

This will also mark Hajrullahu’s second stint in Dallas, kicking for them last season. In one game for the Cowboys, he made five out of five extra points and saw all seven of his deep kicks go back for touchbacks. Carolina also used Hajrullahu’s services, going four for five on field goal attempts with a long of 35-yards.

Sam is a native of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, returning home and getting back into the NFL. He most recently played for the New Orleans Breakers in the USFL but was also a member of the Tampa Bay Bandits. Detroit was Sam’s last stop in the NFL, being on their practice squad for two seasons.
