Micah Parsons sends goodbye message to position coach George Edwards
Following the Dallas Cowboys 19-12 Division Playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the organization decided to make some coaching staff changes, firing five different position coaches on staff. One of those coaches was linebackers coach George Edwards, who joined the Cowboys staff in 2020 along with head coach Mike McCarthy.
Cowboys star linebacker Micha Parsons worked directly with Edwards, and clearly had a close relationship, as he decided to share a heartfelt farewell message to his now former coach via Twitter.
Parsons message read, “All I can say is thank you! Not for taking a kid from Harrisburg but for raising me like I was one of your own! I wouldn’t have made so many leaps with out you! You will be missed! #love.”
Edwards coached Parsons for his lone two seasons in Dallas, and according to Parsons seemed to have a hand in him being drafted by the Cowboys in 2020. Parsons had had back-to-back breakout seasons under Edwards, earning Pro Bowl honors twice, First-team All-Pro honors twice, and the winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021. In just two seasons he’s recorded 149 tackles, 26.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, and six pass deselections and is a finalst for the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.
Edwards was let go along with running backs coach Skip Peete, defensive line coach Leon Lett, offensive line coach Joe Philbin, and assistant head coach Rob Davis, and it will be interesting to see how Dallas chooses to fill those roles this offseason.
Ian Rapoport says Dallas Cowboys could make staff changes, says Mike McCarthy is ‘safe’
The Dallas Cowboys’ 19-12 NFC Divisional Playoff loss to the San Fransisco 49ers had its fair share of mistakes and blunders for the Cowboys. With that comes the questions of what changes Dallas needs to make heading into next season, which almost always starts with the head coach. Some may think Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is in the hot seat following Sunday’s showing, but NFL insider Ian Rapoport disagrees.
“Mike McCarthy’s not in trouble, might there be some staff changes? Anything’s possible when things don’t go perfectly, I mean there’s I think 13 or so coordinator jobs open in the NFL right now,” Rapoport said. “That actually might just be offensive coordinators, there’s a lot, there’s a lot of coordinator movement this year.”

The Cowboys end the season with a top-10 scoring offense and defense, which has led to both their offensive and defensive coordinators Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn’s names circulating for head coaching jobs, which Rapoport believes is a lot more likely than McCarthy losing his job.
“Dan Quinn obviously could leave and get a head coaching job, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of staff movement, I just don’t get the sense it will be like anything crazy crazy, like Mike McCarthy’s fine for instance,” Rapoport said.
Offseason coaching staff moves for the Cowboys may be inevitable, but Rapoport believes what they do from a roster standpoint is more interesting when looking at Dallas. Starting with quarterback Dak Prescott, who ended the game with 206 passing yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions on a 62.2% completion percentage.
“But the Dak question’s interesting because he obviously didn’t play great, the interceptions are a problem,” Rapoport said. “Obviously the 49ers’ defense is awesome, like literally the best, awesome, and they make everybody look bad.”
