Kellen Moore addresses college head coaching rumors
With seven current FBS head coaching openings in college football, many names – from both the college and professional level – are being thrown around as possible candidates for the open positions. One of the names that’s been in discussions is Dallas Cowboys offense coordinator Kellen Moore.
Currently in his second season as Dallas’ OC, Moore was asked Monday about the open head coaching jobs in college football and his name being mentioned in them, according to a tweet from Jon Machota of The Athletic. Moore quickly shut down those speculations and made it clear that he wants to be in Dallas.
“No, not one bit,” Moore said when asked if he’d been in discussions with any schools. “I don’t worry about any of that stuff.”
Moore, who played quarterback at Boise State and then in the NFL for the Cowboys and Detroit Lions, had been mentioned as a possible candidate to replace Gary Patterson at TCU. However, he’s reportedly now out of the mix for that opening and is instead expected to pursue opportunities in the NFL following the 2021 season.
Now 33, Moore was in discussions with his alma mater Boise State last offseason for the Broncos’ head coaching job, but he ultimately removed his name from the candidate list and remained with the Cowboys’ organization.
After finishing up his playing career in 2017 with the Cowboys, Moore quickly jumped into coaching and was hired as Dallas’ quarterbacks coach for the 2018 campaign. He was promoted to the team’s offensive coordinator in 2019.

Moore’s offense has been sensational this season as it leads the NFL with 434.3 yards per game behind the arm of quarterback Dak Prescott. The Cowboys are currently 6-2 on the year and in first place in the NFC East. Following a 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos, Dallas is back in action Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons at AT&T Stadium.
Jerry Jones sounds off on Dallas Cowboys lackluster effort vs. Broncos
Sunday was not a good performance from the Dallas Cowboys. Despite getting quarterback Dak Prescott back, the Cowboys were completely shut down by the Denver Broncos. The Broncos won the game 30-16. Following the loss, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has given a strong statement on his disappointment with the team’s performance.
“That’s as flat as any team I’ve seen,” Jones said via Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper. “We basically played what seemed to be lackadaisical.”
Jones also said that the Cowboys were “internally overconfident” which led the team to not be ready. The loss was the Cowboys’ second of the season, dropping them to 6-2 on the season. Denver improved to 5-4 with their victory.
