Report: Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to interview with Carolina Panthers
After requesting permission to interview Kellen Moore earlier this month, the Carolina Panthers are following through on their plans this week. The Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator will interview on Tuesday for the open head coaching gig, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.
After coordinating the Cowboys offense to a fourth-place finish in points per game (27.5) this season, it’s no surprise Moore is once again on the candidates list.
After the 2021 season, Moore took interviews with the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. However, he was not reported to have received offers for those jobs.
The Panthers parted ways with head coach Matt Rhule after starting the season 1-4 this year.
Meanwhile, Dallas may soon be on the hunt to replace one or both coordinators. Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn has a second interview with the Cardinals on Tuesday night, as well as second interviews with the Broncos and Colts later this week.
Steve Smith blasts Moore for final Cowboys play
Moore is receiving his fair share of criticism for the decision he made on the last play of the game on Sunday, including from former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith.

Down seven points with six seconds remaining in the game and no timeouts, Moore called an interesting play that had running back Ezekiel Elliott lined up a center and all five offensive lineman lined up out wide on opposite sides of the field. Dallas needed a miracle play, that instead resulted in Elliot getting ran over immediately after he snapped the ball and wide receiver Michael Turpin getting tackled immediately after catching an eight-yard pass from Dak Prescott.
“We the panthers interviewed Kellen Moore for the HC job!” Smith tweeted on Sunday. “Based on the last play for the cowboys, Ain’t no way in hell Moore is coaching us with that trash last play!!!!”
Smith is an all-time Panthers great, but his part in the decision-making as far as who will be Carolina’s next head coach is debatable.
