Dallas Cowboys sign rookies Sam Williams and Jalen Tolbert

The Dallas Cowboys have officially signed draft picks Sam Williams and Jalen Tolbert. The Cowboys made the announcement on Tuesday, shortly after making deals with their second and third-round picks. With Williams and Tolbert now under contract, that just leaves Dallas’s fourth-round pick tight end Jake Ferguson as the only rookie yet to sign.

The Cowboys selected Williams with the No. 56 overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. In 2019 he led the Rebels with six sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss, as well as recording an interception and forced fumble. He was suspended for part of the 2020 season after being charged with sexual battery, although the charges would later be dropped. He returned to the field and led the Rebels again with four sacks. His best season came last year, as Williams tallied 12.5 sacks — a school record — with 16 tackles for a loss and forcing four fumbles. He left Ole Miss with third-team AP All-American and first-team All-SEC honors.

The Cowboys used the No. 88 pick of the 2022 NFL Draft on wide receiver Tolbert out of South Alabama. Tolbert’s 6-foot-3 height and his speed make him an ideal deep and red zone threat for the Cowboys’ passing game. At South Alabama, he had a total of 178 career receptions for 3,140 yards and 22 touchdowns. And just last year, he was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after setting a new school record with 82 catches over their 12-game season.

Their contract details have yet to be released.

Former Cowboys defensive lineman Jack Crawford announces NFL retirement

Former Penn State Nittany Lions star defensive lineman Jack Crawford announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Tuesday. Crawford played for five different teams during his 10-year pro career, starting with the Oakland Raiders and finishing with the Arizona Cardinals. The most productive years of his career were with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Crawford went No. 158 overall to the Raiders. He played sparingly as a rookie before breaking out in 15 games as a second-year player. The Dallas Cowboys picked him up initially for two years before keeping him for a third after a 2015 season with 21 tackles and four sacks.
