Dallas Cowboys place Trevon Diggs on PUP list amid ACL recovery
The Dallas Cowboys announced they have placed Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs on the PUP list as he returns from his torn ACL. The 25-year-old suffered the injury on Sept. 21 last year during practice. Diggs played in just two games in 2023 and registered four tackles with one interception.
Before the injury, Diggs was coming off a 2022 season where he notched 50 tackles, three interceptions and 14 passes defended. He had a breakout season in 2021, collecting 43 stops, a league-leading 11 interceptions 21 passes defended and two defensive touchdowns. Diggs was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2022. He was also selected to the All-Pro First Team in 2021.
Diggs will be the only player on the Cowboys roster to start camp on the PUP list. He is ineligible to practice with the team during training camp until he’s removed from it. If Diggs remains on the PUP after the final roster cutdown in late August, he would be forced to miss the first four games of the regular season.
Trevon Diggs stuck to a routine during his recovery process
Shortly after the injury, Diggs spoke to the media about the mental aspect of his road to recovery. “At first, it was tough, but I’m used to it now, just every day doing the same things — getting my routine down and getting structure and discipline to focus on what’s important,” Diggs said, per the Cowboys’ official website.

“I just watch football all day, literally. I never got the chance to really sit down and watch other teams. I’ve been taking my time doing that and reading a couple books, and trying to find a couple new hobbies. Just taking everything day by day.
“I’ve learned a lot [by watching other teams]. I’m still learning. Seeing the different pieces and looking at it from an outside lens is just different. You’ve got a different view of the game.”
The Cowboys are hoping Diggs will be ready to go before the regular season kicks off because they will need their elite players healthy to make a run at the Super Bowl. Last year, the Cowboys finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and won the NFC East. However, Dallas fell to the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
