Official 53-man rosters have been set across the NFL, with the Dallas Cowboys having a number of interesting moves. Last-minute trades, such as the one for quarterback Trey Lance, took place to shape how teams are going to line up throughout the 2023 season. More moves are needed outside of setting the roster, though, with the practice squad needing attention.

According to Jon Machota on The Athletic, Dallas has resigned 14 players to the practice squad. Some went through training camp with Dallas and got the opportunity to impress head coach Mike McCarthy. While it may have not been enough to be on the 53-man for Week 1 against the New York Giants.

There were a couple of guys Dallas attempted to bring onto the practice squad but failed. Linebacker Jabril Cox opted to stay in the NFC East but with the Washington Commanders. A former Cowboys draft pick will now be heading to the nation’s capital.

And then there is Isaiah Land, the rookie out of Florida A&M. Indianapolis was able to pick him up as Land will feature on the Colts’ practice squad.

Malik Jefferson resigned to Dallas Cowboys practice squad

Dallas was going to give local product Malik Jefferson a shot during training camp. Not only did he play his college football for Texas but Jefferson is also from the Mesquite area, attending Poteet High School. After being a five-star prospect heading into college, the NFL career has been up and down for Jefferson.

Unfortunately, Jefferson injured himself during the first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was dealing with a foot injury, plantar fascia injury, and was not able to get back onto the field. What was thought to be a tough break at the time could wind up turning into a real opportunity for the linebacker.

Since he is back on the practice squad, Jefferson is going to have a path to getting real playing time during the regular season. The Cowboys are dealing with other injuries at linebacker. If everything shakes out well and Jefferson is performing, he could suit up one week.
