Dak Prescott writing his own story: 'I have the pen, I have the paper'
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had his mic-drop moment on Thursday night after leading Dallas to a 41-35 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Now 9-3, the Cowboys are on their way to another postseason run and Prescott is continuing to show why he has a case for league MVP this season.
Asked about the new MVP discussion surrounding him, the star quarterback told reporters he’s writing his own story – and no outside opinions matter.
“There is no difference when they are hating me and calling for my position,” Prescott said, via Jon Machota. “I’m blessed. I am super blessed. And I think about that each and every day that I wake up. I am grateful for that opportunity to do that. And I go and attack the day. I understand that no one’s opinion defines me, and that’s the great part about life. That’s the great opportunity that we all have, that people can say whatever they want.
“But I have the pen, I have the paper, and I am the one writing. Because I am playing as well as I am now, it doesn’t mean I am going to stop. It doesn’t mean I’m going to listen to them now. I appreciate them, but I don’t care about their opinions right now any more than I did when they were calling for my spot. As I said, I am blessed, this last year has been a reflection of that. A lot of great things have happened in my life and they are going to continue to happen in my life because of my mindset and where I put the value of life.”
Following the win over the Seahawks, Prescott jumped to No. 2 in the Las Vegas odds for MVP. He trails Jalen Hurts +180 to +375 as the Eagles prep for a huge Week 13 game against the 49ers.
Prescott tears through November
Leading Dallas to a 6-1 record over the last seven games, Prescott has a 70% completion rate, 2,173 yards, 23 total touchdowns, and two interceptions. On the season, he has just six interceptions, which comes after he posted a career-high of 15 in 2022.
After Prescott’s three-touchdown performance on Thursday, Mike McCarthy called him a “championship-caliber” QB. It’s the reason why Dallas and Jerry Jones have stuck by the former fourth-rounder for eight seasons despite little to show for it in the postseason.

“We want to attack and you can only do that with a championship-caliber quarterback, and Dak is that guy,” the head coach said.
Prescott fired some praise back the other way as well after the game. He credited McCarthy with being on the ball with his play calling as the Cowboys fought to come back in the fourth quarter.
“Yeah, I mean he’s definitely on fire,” Prescott said. “He’s firing them off the call sheet whether it be run, play action, whatever it is.”
Dallas has a rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football in Week 14. In the previous matchup, Prescott threw three touchdowns and no interceptions but the team still came up short, 28-23. He did, however, take five sacks for a loss of 41 yards. Cleaning that up for game No. 2 and finding more success in the run game will be key for the Cowboys against the one-loss Eagles.
