The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed defensive tackle Carl Davis to the roster for the 2024 season. Davis joined the team in November as a member of the practice squad and the team has now opted to keep him around as they begin to formulate what the defense will look like under Mike Zimmer.

During the 2023 season, the team elevated Davis for the league maximum of three games before being reverted to the practice squad for the remainder of the season. Once the season ended, he became a free agent without a futures/reserves deal. However, now, he has a chance to contribute more in 2024.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Davis as a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Iowa. He’s been a bit of a journeyman with stops in Baltimore, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, New England and Seattle. The 32-year-old defensive tackle has racked up 68 tackles with 2.5 sacks and 8.5 tackls for loss in 19 starts in the league. His last deal with New England was for one year, $1.3 million.

Dallas has a lengthy list of upcoming free agents to consider re-signing, as well as multiple stars who are looking for contract extensions. The list of the Cowboys’ free agents includes Tyron Smith, Tony Pollard, Stephon Gilmore, Tyler Biadasz, Dorance Armstrong Jr., Jayron Kearse, Jourdan Lewis, Johnathan Hankins, Neville Gallimore, Dante Fowler Jr., Chuma Edoga, Noah Igbinoghene and Rico Dowdle.

Whether the Cowboys re-sign Johnathan Hankins or not could majorly impact the team’s draft plans, or vice versa. Either way, Dallas is looking to add to their group of big bodies this offseason after a dip in run defense this year.
