Dallas Cowboys release final injury report vs Cincinnati Bengals

The Dallas Cowboys made their final decisions on five players’ statuses ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. They’ll all be out for the game, according to the final injury report.

The most notable name on the list is Michael Gallup, who returned to practice in a limited capacity all week as he works his way back from a torn ACL toward the end of last season. Although he’s not expected to play for a few weeks, Dak Prescott will remain on the injury report as he recovers from surgery on a broken thumb on his throwing hand.

The shorthanded Cowboys kick off their Week 2 matchup with Joe Burrow and the Bengals Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.

Out — DE Tarell Basham (thigh), WR Michael Gallup (knee), S Jayron Kearse (knee), G Connor McGovern (ankle), QB Dak Prescott (right thumb)

Basham, Kearse and McGovern all missed practice Wednesday and Thursday after suffering injuries in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kearse was the biggest blow on defense and left the stadium on crutches following the loss to Tampa Bay, and it’s unclear when he’ll return to the lineup as he deals with the knee injury. He had seven tackles in that game, his first since a career year in 2021 when he had 101 tackles and two interceptions.

Losing McGovern adds more questions to an offensive line that’s dealing with plenty of injuries and now has to protect Cooper Rush after Prescott went down. It’s once again going to be next man up for the Cowboys as they turn to their backup quarterback.

But Jerry Jones sounded optimistic Prescott could come back sooner than expected. He made the surprise decision to keep his quarterback off the injured reserve, which would’ve kept him out at least four games.

“I think what we’re going to do here is we won’t be putting him on IR, which means we want him to be a consideration for playing within the next 4 games,” Jones said, via Jori Epstein. “We will NOT put him on IR.”
