Dallas Cowboys request to interview Eagles OC Kellen Moore for head coaching job
The Dallas Cowboys have officially requested permission to speak with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore about their head coaching job, according to a report from the NFL Network.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network relayed the news on Thursday morning.
Kellen Moore is considered one of the top available candidates for the job, in part due to his ties to the franchise. Moore played quarterback for the Cowboys from 2015-17, then served as quarterbacks coach in 2018 before moving further up the chain.
After just one year as quarterbacks coach, Moore was promoted to offensive coordinator. He served in that post with the Cowboys from 2019-22 before moving to the Los Angeles Chargers (2023) and then the Philadelphia Eagles (2024).
Moore admitted his ties to Dallas are strong.
“I spent a lot of time there, eight years there, so [I] have plenty of relationships in that place,” Moore said, before praising Philadelphia. “I love it here. I’ve had so much fun here. It’s been a really fun process, and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the chance to play this Sunday, having a chance to make a run at this thing, and that’s really all you worry about. Everything else is what it is, and we’ll see where it takes you.”

During Kellen Moore’s time as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator, the franchise was a Top-10 unit three times in four years. That includes the 2021 season when Dallas led the NFL in both points and yards en route to the first of three straight 12-win seasons.
As for who else could be in the mix to replace McCarthy if not Kellen Moore, multiple former Cowboys players are coming up. Colorado coach Deion Sanders spoke with Jerry Jones about the opening, according to multiple reports, and told ESPN’s Adam Schefter it was an “intriguing” conversation and spoke about how much he respects Jones.
Meanwhile, Cowboys great Jason Witten could also get a look, after getting into the coaching ranks at the high school ranks in Texas. He led Argyle (TX) Liberty Christian to a state title this past year.
On3’s Nick Schultz also contributed to this report.
