Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup has been working his way back into form after suffering an ACL tear last season. The Cowboys elected not to start their wideout on the team’s short-term injured reserve or PUP lists to start the season; holding out hope that he will be ready to play before Week 5. Unfortunately, for Dallas’s Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gallup has officially been ruled out, according to NFL Networks Mike Garafolo.

Early reports suggested that it was unlikely that Gallup would be prepared to go for week one against Tampa Bay. However, there were promising signs this week as the Cowboys wide receiver participated in practice, although it was in a limited capacity.

With Gallup officially out for the game, Dallas will rely heavily on their new number one wideout CeeDee Lamb to carry much of the load at wide receiver.

Dak Prescott leaves Cowboys practice early with ankle injury, calls it ‘a little hangnail’

The Cowboys will open their season in primetime, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who was thought to be healthy going into the year, now has the chance of showing up on the injury report this weekend.

Prescott said the reason he may be listed on the injury report is that if Dallas doesn’t, there is a chance to be fined. He left practice on Thursday with a supposed ankle injury but Prescott described it as “a little hangnail.” From at least what the quarterback is saying, there’s nothing to be worried about.

“Honestly, I feel great. Something may come up in the report, but as you know, that’s this league,” Prescott said. “If you don’t report a hangnail you’ll get fined. But I feel great. I still feel the best I’ve felt in a very, very long time. … Just a little hangnail.”

When pressed about the situation by reporters, Prescott reiterated he was going to be okay. Sunday night against Tampa Bay does not seem to be in doubt and during the game, he will not be limited.

“I’m good to go,” Prescott said. “I promise you I’m great.”
