Texas Longhorns linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has been selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He’s coming off quite a career with Texas.
Coming out of Arp, Texas, DeMarvion Overshown was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also the sixth ranked linebacker and 48th ranked player overall in that class.
A fifth year player who used his extra season of eligibility, DeMarvion Overshown played in 50 games, starting in 33. He was also a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022. That season, he had 96 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and four sacks. Over the course of his entire career, he had 30.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
At Texas’ Pro Day, DeMarvion Overshown worked out with both the defensive backs and the linebackers.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about DeMarvion Overshown
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein broke down DeMarvion Overshown as a prospect ahead of the NFL Draft.
Zierlein started by pointing out the strides that DeMarvion Overshown has taken at the linebacker position, particularly from 2021 to 2022. That development shows that he still has room to grow as a player. He’s also already good at processing plays from his position and has good overall awareness. Add how much he hustles, and there is plenty to like about Overshown.
However, he still has room to grow. Overshown’s frame is going to be a concern and he needs to add muscle mass. This can, in turn, give him trouble attacking blocks and dealing with run fits.
“Former safety turned linebacker who has slowly but surely improved his feet and recognition over the last three seasons. Whether playing inside or outside, Overshown will need to get stronger and more effective at taking on blockers and tackling with security,” Zierlein wrote.
“His tape shows much improved key reading and play recognition, which could prove critical in allowing him to play at a consistently faster pace to the football. Overshown could struggle to hold up to downhill running attacks, but his instincts and blitz talent create a potential opportunity for him as a nickel/dime linebacker.”
