East Carolina CB Shavon Revel Jr. saw his draft stock take a hit coming off a season-ending injury last fall with a torn ACL. He still heard his name called, though, with his selection.

The Dallas Cowboys have picked Revel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was pick No. 76 overall.

Revel tore that ACL in practice as he made just three appearances in his final season for the Pirates. He would still, in just those three games, though, post eight tackles, a pair of deflections, and two interceptions with one going for a pick-six in what was his final collegiate appearance. Revel would then declare for the draft two months later.

Add in the statistics from his two seasons prior at ECU and Revel had 70 tackles, five being for loss, with 15 deflections, three picks, a fumble recovery that went for a score, and one sack. Most of that came in his junior year where he was an all-conference corner with 54 tackles, four for loss, 13 deflections, an interception, and his forced fumble with recovery plus his sack. That earned him preseason honors coming into last season as an All-American as well as making the watchlists for the Nagurski Trophy and the Jim Thorpe Award, which the injury obviously ended his contention for.

Revel also spent two seasons, with his first one shortened due to the pandemic, at Louisburg College. That’s after being a member of the 2019 class at Reagan (Pfafftown) as a native of Winston-Salem.

Coming off injury out of Greenville, Revel still projects as one of the better defensive backs and mid-major players in this draft class. It’s now about how he continues to recover from that knee injury going into his rookie season in the NFL.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Revel

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein liked a lot of what he assessed in Revel ahead of this draft in projecting him as a first or second-round selection. He too, though, is noting how he rehabs off the injury as, besides that, he slates him as a potential starter in some team’s secondary.

“Big, long and fast are the physical descriptors that stand out for the East Carolina corner. Revel is leggy when matching press release but he’s disruptive once he gets his hands on the wideout. He plays upright in man coverage, tends to allow small pockets of separation due to his high center of gravity and still needs improvement when it comes to finding and defending the deep ball, despite his ability to stay in phase with vertical routes. He has ideal length and good vision from zone, and he should continue to improve in that coverage with more experience. Revel suffered a torn ACL in September, but his measurables, explosiveness and upside give him a good chance to become an early starter.”
