The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a one-year deal with defensive end Payton Turner, per The Athletic‘s Todd Archer. Turner had 21 tackles, two sacks, four pass deflections and two forced fumbles in 16 games last year for the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints selected Turner with the No. 28 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite Turner’s fantastic build and stunning athleticism, he’s faced numerous injuries throughout his NFL career.

Last season was the first time he played more than half the games in a campaign. Now, Payton Turner will look to reach new heights as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

He’s joining the Cowboys at the beginning of a new era for the organization. After parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy earlier this year, the Dallas Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach.

The Cowboys initially hired Schottenheimer as a consultant in 2022. However, he was promoted to offensive coordinator on Feb. 4, 2023. Now, Schottenheimer will take the final step on the staff ladder and have a chance to lead the Cowboys.

The Cowboys averaged 328.4 yards per game this past season under Schottenheimer’s guidance. While the figure still ranked in the top half of the league, the Cowboys were at a disadvantage, with key offensive players like QB Dak Prescott and wide receiver Brandin Cooks missing large chunks of the season due to injury.

A more telling representation of Schottenheimer’s success as offensive coordinator was the Cowboys’ 2023 campaign when they averaged 371.6 yards per game, the fifth-most in the NFL. Now, Schottenheimer will have a chance to build on the promising flashes he’s shown.

Jacksonville Jaguars sign former Cowboys OL Chuma Edoga

On Monday, The Jacksonville Jaguars signed offensive lineman Chuma Edogaper FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz. Edoga started 10 games over the past two seasons for the Dallas Cowboys.

Last season, Edoga suffered a toe injury during the preseason and was placed on the injured reserve. He wasn’t activated until Nov. 23.

Prior to his time with the Cowboys, Edgoa spent three seasons on the New York Jets and one year on the Atlanta Falcons. Edoga’s time with the Falcons was also marred by injury issues. He only played in two games during his lone season with the organization.
