Dallas Cowboys sign KJ Henry in wake of Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence injuries
The Dallas Cowboys are signing pass rusher KJ Henry to a two-year contract off the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported the news, and the addition comes as Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence are dealing with injuries.
Henry, 25, was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He was released from the Commanders in August of this year before being claimed by the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals waived Henry on Sept. 17 before re-signing him to the team’s practice squad.
In 2023, Henry played in 10 games for the Commanders and recorded 19 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two passes defended. He has no stats in the two games he played for the Bengals this season.
Henry played college football at Clemson and helped the team win the national title in 2018. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2022 after posting 51 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

KJ Henry on rookie season with Washington Commanders
Before Henry was released by the Commanders, he talked about not playing on gamedays. “I’m not getting to do what I want to do,” Henry said, per the Commanders’ official website. “I mean, you’re a senior, you’ve been playing all this time, now you come here, you’ve been playing in the preseason games … But I know that whether it be the energy or whether it be that I help someone else that I could still add value to the team. So, that’s really what I tried to focus on.”
Henry added, “My mindset was…I’ve been benched for eight weeks. Now it’s time to show everybody what I’m about. That’s really my only mindset, and I think that just is more of a fueling one. I think that just works better.”
Parsons and Lawrence suffered injuries in the Cowboys’ 20-15 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday night and will likely miss some time. The addition of Henry is interesting since Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently said the team was going to lean on internal options and not seek outside help.
