Dallas Cowboys sign QB Will Grier to practice squad after release

The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed quarterback Will Grier to their practice squad, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. Grier was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday, which was the deadline for teams for make 53-man roster cuts.
Although Grier won’t be on the 53-man roster to start the season, it appears the team still sees value in him and wants to keep him as a backup option just in case. Only two quarterbacks made Dallas’ 53-man roster, Dak Prescott and Joe Milton.
This preseason, Grier was 7-of-14 passing for 87 yards. He did not throw any touchdowns or interceptions.
Grier first arrived in Dallas in 2021 after being cut from the Carolina Panthers. The former third-round pick out of West Virginia remained on the practice squad for the next two seasons but did not appear in any games.
Grier was waived ahead of the 2023 season and appeared on the practice squad for multiple different teams that year. He spent 2024 as a member of the practice squad for the Philadelphia Eagles but was released on Nov. 7.
We’ll see how long Grier remains on the practice squad this year as he hopes to provide some valuable depth behind Prescott and Milton. Dallas kicks off the 2025 season on Sept. 4 against the Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys trade OL Asim Richards to New Orleans Saints
The Dallas Cowboys are trading offensive guard Asim Richards to the New Orleans Saints ahead of Tuesday’s 53-man roster deadline, per ESPN‘s Adam Schefter. The Saints received Richards and a 2028 seventh-round pick, while the Cowboys received a 2028 sixth-round pick.
Richards has played in 21 games in two years with the Dallas Cowboys (one start). He posted a 58.7 PFF grade in 2024, with a 69.5 pass blocking grade and a 44.5 run blocking grade.
Richards was a three-star recruit coming out of Fords High School (Haverford, PA) in the Class of 2019, where he was tabbed the No. 977-ranked player in the country. He committed to North Carolina, where he’d play from 2019-2022. As a Tar Heel, he was named Third Team All-ACC in 2022 and participated in the 202 Senior Bowl.
“Richards was a terrific pass-blocking LT for North Carolina and is a nice-sized lineman with growth potential,” ProFootballNetwork.com said about Richards following his collegiate career. “He may not possess the athleticism necessary to be used in a zone-blocking system, yet the ability to turn defenders off the line run blocking and anchor in pass protection will get him several looks from a power-gap offense.”
