Cowboys star Micah Parsons earns NFC defensive player of the week
Former Penn State defensive superstar Micah Parsons earned the NFL’s Week 5 honor for the NFC defensive player of the week following his productive weekend versus the LA Rams.
The Dallas Cowboys linebacker is coming off of a rookie season that saw him win the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year award and apparently, he’s not slowing down.
He proved his dominance as a pass rusher in a big way on Sunday. He grabbed another two sacks, and a quarterback hit in the Cowboys’ 22-10 win to get a share of the NFL lead at six sacks through Week 5. Parsons also had a forced fumble and five total tackles.

Mike McCarthy on Micah Parsons groin injury
According to head coach Mike McCarthy on Monday, Parsons is “getting better” in regards to the groin injury that visibly bothered him in the second half on Sunday.
Dallas did not provide an update on Monday about his availability ahead of Wednesday’s practice.
“Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said linebacker Micah Parsons (groin) is ‘good’ and ‘getting better.’ Has not received a medical update yet on how much Parsons can do in practice Wednesday. Believes it says a lot about him how impactful he was despite injury,” explained Dallas Morning News‘ Michael Gehlken.
After playing the full first half, the linebacker missed the first series after halftime. He continued to get rest between plays for the rest of the game. Despite the injury, fans probably shouldn’t expect him to miss any time.
George Edwards, a senior defensive assistant, checked in with Parsons to see if he could go back into the game on Sunday. He reportedly replied, “George, as long as I’m alive, I can go.”
