Trevon Diggs and Dak Prescott trash-talk each other like siblings on a regular basis but this week, their banter captured on video opened the opportunity for Cowboys naysayers to find yet another angle to criticize the franchise quarterback.

Most notably, former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ranted that Prescott’s teammates don’t respect him and even suggested they’re “tired” of him. McCoy’s disdain for the Cowboys star is well-documented at this point.

When given the chance to address the wild narrative on Thursday, Diggs came down on the critics hard.

“Stay out of our business,” Diggs said. “People don’t need to worry about what we got going on, our relationship, my relationship with my brother. Dak is the leader of our team. He’s going to go out there and have a great year. I have the utmost respect for Dak.

“Whatever narrative people wanna run with, that just is what it is, but we know how we are and it’s nothing. That stuff can never come in-between us. We don’t even talk about it.”

“I feel like it makes practice fun,” Diggs added. “At the end of the day, that’s my brother. I love Dak to death. There’s nothing behind it. It’s just competitiveness, it’s just football.”

Prescott: ‘I start a lot of it’

On Thursday, Prescott admitted that he’s the one starting a lot of the trash talk. He told DallasCowboys.com that he uses the verbal jabs to get the best out of his teammates who respond to that type of motivation.

“It’s honestly one of those things you realize a lot of people haven’t been in heated competitions,” Prescott said. “I feel bad for people who haven’t been in those moments.”

Mike McCarthy wants his players to have the same fire practicing with each other as they do versus opponents, and the back-and-forth banter is part of that. The Cowboys aren’t practicing against any other team this preseason, so the trash-talking between teammates adds to the competitive element.

“The fact that they do talk so hard to each other, it shows the connection,” McCarthy said, via Clarence Hill. “So to me, it’s the complete opposite. When you’re competing and it’s like your brother, no one goes harder against your brother than you.”

McCarthy also credited Prescott for his ability to tune out the fabricated noise on a weekly basis.

“Strong man, strong,” McCarthy said. “What he has to deal with every day. Very impressive”

The Cowboys hit the field for the first preseason game versus Jacksonville in a week’s time.
