Report: Update on Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup's future in Dallas
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is going to have some tough decisions to make this offseason, especially on the offensive side. It will be hard to keep one of the NFL’s top units together heading into the 2022 season thanks to their cap situation.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero gave the latest update on a few of the stars in running back Ezekiel Elliott, wide receiver Amari Cooper, and wide receiver Michael Gallup. He said one of them will definitely will return to Dallas while there is some uncertainty with the wide receivers.
“I am told Ezekiel Elliott will be back for 2022,” Pelissero said. “He dealt with that PCL injury last year, thought he played really well when healthy. They appreciate the work ethic. More up in the air? Wide receiver Amari Cooper. Big priority for Dallas is to resign Michael Gallup. Hard to do that with Amari Cooper taking up $20 million of the cap.”
Elliot has been a star for the Cowboys ever since being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2016 NFL draft. He was one of the league’s best running backs early in his career but has since seen the numbers dip a little bit. Thanks to his contract, it’s nearly impossible for Dallas to move him, as his 2022 salary is fully guaranteed.
As for the wide receivers, there will be a tough decision once the new calendar year starts. If Gallup is going to resign, trading Cooper would become a real possibility. He’s been the favorite receiver of quarterback Dak Prescott ever since Cooper arrived in the middle of the 2018 season. Gallup himself has been a huge threat, having over 1,000 yards in 2019.

Now, the Super Bowl is coming up this weekend between the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals. Jones gave an interesting answer about how his feelings toward the game.
“When y’all hear what sounds like … one of these mountain lions with its tail caught, that’s me screaming into my pillow for not being in that Super Bowl,” Jones said, via TMZ Sports.
