Dallas Cowboys update status of cornerback Trevon Diggs
The Dallas Cowboys provided an injury update on cornerback Trevon Diggs, who left Sunday’s game after making his fifth interception of the season. According to multiple reports, Diggs was dealing with tightness in his back following a possible collision with another player’s cleat in the first half.
“He could have returned if needed to. …It was bothering him at halftime,” said head coach Mike McCarthy, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.
The Cowboys head coach added that Diggs officially began his campaign for NFC Defensive Player of the Month in October with two more interceptions against the Panthers.
Diggs has already claimed the NFC Defensive Player of the Month award in September and could quickly become a candidate for postseason NFL honors at this pace. The former Alabama star has 13 tackles and five interceptions, including a pick six against the Philadelphia Eagles, so far this season.
He is the first Cowboy since Don Bishop in 1961 to make an interception in each of the first 4 games of a season. He is also the first Cowboy since Chuck Howley in 1968 with five interceptions in the team’s first four games of a season.

According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Dallas owner Jerry Jones chimed in on the Trevon Diggs injury, saying it was “a little early” to take him out, but he did not have a “real issue” with the decision to rest the breakout star.
High praise for Trevon Diggs
The praise for Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has been coming from everywhere. Two of his biggest competitors in offseason training camp receivers Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb both complimented him on this play to start the season. And even owner Jerry Jones also praised Diggs in a very unique way.
“A receiver faking it as a D-back,” Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. “He plays that ball and makes those special plays. And obviously, he’s not only got talent, but by the way, he’s worked to get in position to make those plays. He’s a difference-maker.”
But it is not just him picking off opposing quarterbacks, Diggs is locking down the receivers he covers as well. Against Tampa Bay, Diggs covered one of the Bucs top receivers, Mike Evans on 83 percent of his Week One routes. During that time, he allowed only one catch for 10 yards on three targets, according to Next Gen Stats.
