Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup undergoes offseason surgery on ankle, knee
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup underwent surgery on Tuesday, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. Gallup required an arthroscopic procedure to clean up his right ankle and right knee.
Coming off of an ACL tear last season, the former third-round draft pick had 39 catches in 14 games played for 424 yards and four touchdowns in 2022. In the playoff win versus Tampa Bay, Gallup caught five passes for 46 yards. However, against San Francisco, he failed to notch a catch on three targets.
“Scopes give Gallup his best chance of a healthy 2023, as he’s further removed from ACL tear to left knee,” Gehlken reported.
Prior to hitting the free agent market last season, Gallup signed a five-year, $57.5 million deal to stay with the Cowboys. Of the sum, $23 million was guaranteed money at signing.
In five seasons with Dallas, Gallup has 232 receptions for 3,326 yards and 19 touchdowns. So far, he has one season with over 1,000 receiving yards, which he notched in 2019.

Tony Pollard completes surgery following injury in playoff loss
The 2022 season ended on an especially bitter note for Cowboys running back Tony Pollard. He exited their divisional-round loss versus the 49ers in the first half after suffering a fracture to his left fibula and a high ankle sprain. Although his leg fracture will heal with time, Pollard underwent surgery last week for his ankle.
After completing the “tightrope” surgery, the Cowboys’ leading running back can turn his focus to rehab ahead of free agency. His timeline for recovery puts him back on the field in time for training camp, however, which field he’ll be on is still in question.
The fourth-year back out of Memphis becomes an unrestricted free agent in March and with former first-rounder Ezekiel Elliott to consider, it’s not a done deal that he’ll return to Dallas.
ESPN reporter Ed Werder shared on Tuesday, however, that he believes the Cowboys would franchise tag Pollard if they don’t work out a deal. The franchise tag value for running backs in 2023 is $10.1 million.
