Dalvin Cook update: Dallas Cowboys make decision on four-time Pro Bowl RB ahead of SNF
The Dallas Cowboys are elevating Dalvin Cook from their practice squad as they search for a spark coming out of their bye week.
Cook will play Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
According to Pelissero, Dalvin Cook has been performing well in practice and will now get an opportunity to show what he can do in a game for the Cowboys.
“The #Cowboys plan to elevate four-time Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook from the practice squad and he’ll make his debut Sunday night against the #49ers, per his agency LAA,” Pelissero posted on Twitter. “Cook has been tearing it up in practice and now he’ll get his first game action in prime time.”

Dalvin Cook, who is 29, signed with the Cowboys in late August, less than two weeks before the regular season opener. He has been on the practice squad since then, as Dallas has opted to go with Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn in its backfield rotation.
The Cowboys’ offense has taken a step back in all areas this season, but particularly on the ground. Dallas has rushed for an NFL-low 463 yards, a 77.2 average per game. Dowdle has seen the lion’s share of the carries, rushing for 246 yards on 4.2 yards per carry. The Cowboys have just two rushing touchdowns this season, one coming from Elliott and the other from quarterback Dak Prescott. Dallas is the only team without a run of 20 or more yards.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy hinted earlier this week that Dalvin Cook was close to being ready to help Dallas. Now he will get his chance.
“I think the biggest thing for us is we’re taking the full week. Dalvin is ready,” McCarthy said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I really like the work that he’s putting in. … I think he’s definitely in position to [play].”
