As Bills safety Damar Hamlin battled a life-threatening injury that he suffered on the field, fans rallied to his charity with donations. Hamlin’s fundraiser that he started — The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive — had a listed goal on GoFundMe of just $2,500 dollars before Monday night.

Within hours, Hamlin’s fundraiser had surpassed $1 million and counting as fans around the league and nation contributed to his cause.

Hamlin began The Chasing M’s Foundation before he even took an NFL snap, with the intent to create an impact on his community as he reached the professional level. The former Pitt star shared a personal message on his listing online for their first donation drive — thanking people for supporting him even years before his horrific injury on Monday.

“As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me.  I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive,” read Hamlin’s message.

“This campaign gives you the opportunity to contribute to our first initiative and positively impact children who have been hardest hit by the pandemic.  100% of the funds raised will go toward the purchase of toys for kids in need.

“Thank you so much for supporting me on and off the field.  I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with you to help make the holiday season a little brighter for the kids in our community.”

As of 11:55 E.T., his GoFundMe request had crossed $1,152,910 in donations and still showed no sign of stopping as fans supported his mission and family.
