Damar Hamlin snags first career interception off of Trevor Lawrence, Bills sideline erupts
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin recorded his first career interception in the Monday Night Football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hamlin picked off a pass thrown by Trevor Lawrence late in the second quarter, and the Bills erupted when it happened.
The interception comes nearly two years after Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals. During the 2023 season, Hamlin saw limited action as he continued his recovery. Before the 2024 season, the Bills announced that Hamlin would start his first game since the medical emergency.
“What else can’t this young man do? He basically went through what he went through on the field, you guys have written about that over and over, and to come back from that,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said at the time. “It’s one thing to come back off of an ACL or a broken bone. It’s another thing to come back off of what he came back off of, right? Let alone just to decide to play football and contact football in full pads at the NFL level.
“I don’t think I need to say anything more. It’s incredible. I think God’s hands have been on Damar and his family and will continue to be. We’re just extremely proud and full of gratitude to watch him go through what he went through and where he is now.”

In the first two games of this season, Hamlin recorded 14 tackles and one tackle for loss. In the first half of the Jaguars game, the Pittsburgh alum notched one tackle with his interception.
After his first start this year, Hamlin talked about his goals outside of football,” “I don’t want to be just known as the player who lived,” Hamlin told NFL.com. “My story is my story. It’s still being written. But I want to be known for my abilities as well. I’ve always had big goals on and off the field. I have so much more that I want to accomplish.”
