Damien Harris injures knee against Pittsburgh Steelers late in fourth quarter

Former Alabama star Damien Harris was injured late in the fourth quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. He was seen grabbing his left knee and he was down on the ground for a few minutes before being tended to by trainers. Harris was able to limp off the field on his own power, but was being looked at by the New England Patriots medical staff on the sideline.

In today’s game against the Steelers, he was having a solid performance, 15 carries for 71 rushing yards and a touchdown, before going down with the injury.

There currently aren’t any updates on his status but he clearly suffered some sort of injury to his left knee. For what it’s worth, the former Crimson Tide standout was at the podium following the game for postgame media interviews. He posted his best season yet last year with the Patriots, rushing for 929 yards and 15 touchdowns on 202 carries.

Harris would go on to have one of the best four-year careers of any running back in Alabama history. Between 2015 and 2018, Harris rushed for 3,070 yards on 477 carries (6.4 yards per carry) and 23 touchdowns. His tenure would include a national championship (2017) and three SEC Championships (2015, 2016 and 2018) and would result in him being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots.

The standout tailback was one of the most highly touted prospects in America coming out of Madison Southern (Berea, Kentucky). According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2015 cycle, Harris was rated as the No. 1 running back in America and the No. 23 overall prospect in the nation. He finished his prolific high school career with the second most touchdowns in Kentucky history (122 total) and the 11th most rushing yards (6,748). Harris played in the 2015 Under Armour All-American Game.
