Dan Morgan describes Jonathan Mingo trade as 'win-win' for Panthers, Cowboys

The Carolina Panthers went into seller mode ahead of the NFL trade deadline, moving on from former second-round pick Jonathan Mingo. Dallas is now where the wide receiver will play out his rookie contract with a fourth-round pick heading back to Carolina.

Panthers general manager Dan Morgan was asked about the trade on Wednesday, calling it a “win-win” for both teams. Building draft capital appears to be one of Morgan’s goals at the moment and getting a fourth for Mingo is widely viewed as good business.

As for Dallas, Morgan sees the value in getting a young wide receiver still in the developmental stage of his career. The Cowboys certainly need somebody to step up alongside CeeDee Lamb and are hoping Mingo can grow into a role at some point.

“Great player, still developing player,” Morgan said. “Thought it was a good deal between us and Dallas. They get a young player that they can grow and develop. We get a draft pick that we’re happy with. So, I think it’s a win-win for both sides.”

Earlier in the day, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was able to give his reaction. Dallas was high on Mingo coming out of the 2023 NFL Draft and believes there is a ton of potential there — somewhat echoing the sentiment of Morgan, just a few hours earlier.

“We believed in our initial grade, we feel like there’s obviously value there,” McCarthy said on Wednesday morning.

In 24 career games, Mingo has caught 55 passes for 539 yards but does not have a touchdown yet in his career. His rookie season was a little more productive than what has been produced in 2024, as nine games have resulted in just nine 12 receptions and 121 yards. Mingo’s last contribution came Week 6 against Atlanta.
