Dan Mullen makes picks for Florida-Texas A&M, marquee Week 3 games
Week 3 of the college football season has arrived, and there are some marquee games set to be played this weekend. Former Florida head coach and current ESPN analyst Dan Mullen has made his picks for several of the top games in Week 3.
Mullen picks games against the spread each week and reveals his choices on Twitter. Here’s a look at who he has covering this weekend:

Kansas State (-7) over Arizona
Dan Mullen got his picks started with a Friday night matchup as Kansas State is hosting Arizona. Mullen likes KSU to cover and bounce back from a subpar performance last weekend. The Kansas State Wildcats had to rally from a double-digit halftime deficit to beat Tulane this past Saturday.
As for the Arizona Wildcats, they are 2-0 on the year with wins over New Mexico and Northern Arizona. If Kansas State is indeed going to win and cover, they will have to slow down Arizona star receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who is one of the best receivers in the country.
South Carolina (+7) over LSU
For his second pick, Dan Mullen went with an SEC game. He has South Carolina covering the seven points as a home underdog against LSU. ESPN College GameDay will be in town for the matchup, and there is a lot of excitement in Columbia after the Gamecocks pounded Kentucky last week.
LSU is off to an up-and-down start to the season and enters 1-1 after losing to USC and beating Nicholls. This is a game Brian Kelly really needs to win to avoid a 1-2 start to the season. However, Mullen has South Carolina at least covering the spread.
Alabama (-16.5) over Wisconsin
Alabama wasn’t exactly stellar for most of last week’s game against USF, but Mullen expects the Crimson Tide to bounce back and roll Wisconsin. This is a pretty big number to be laying against a Big Ten team on the road, but not enough, per Mullen.
If Wisconsin is going to prove Mullen wrong and keep this game close, the Badgers are going to need Miami transfer quarterback Tyler Van Dyke to play well. Van Dyke has looked really good at times in his college career when he has been able to avoid turning the ball over.

Boston College (+16.5) over Missouri
Dan Mullen typically rides with SEC teams, but he is going with an ACC foe in Boston College to keep it at least somewhat close against Missouri. Bill O’Brien is off to a strong start at BC, including a win at Florida State. The Eagles also have a dynamic quarterback in Thomas Castellanos.
Missouri is 2-0 on the season against lesser competition, and this will be a big step up for the Tigers. We should know a lot more about Missouri after this weekend.
Florida (+4) over Texas A&M
This is a battle between two teams that got off to disappointing starts to the 2024 season. The Aggies and Gators both suffered home losses in Week 1, before bouncing back to beat lesser opponents last week.
Texas A&M was at least competitive against Notre Dame, whereas Florida was blown out by Miami to open the season. Still, Mullen believes the Gators will rebound and cover at The Swamp on Saturday against the Aggies.
Pittsburgh (+2.5) over West Virginia
The Backyard Brawl rivalry is back and will be played in Pittsburgh on Saturday. These two teams are rivals who do not like each other, and there is sure to be a lot of emotion in the game.
Pittsburgh is off to a 2-0 start to the season after a disappointing year in 2023. Dan Mullen expects the Panthers to ride that momentum and cover at home against the Mountaineers.
