Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder did not take long to respond to Jim Irsay’s call to vote him out of NFL ownership. Irsay made public comments on Tuesday regarding a recent alleged “threat” by Dan Snyder to dig up information against NFL owners if they attempted to oust him as owner of the Commanders.

“He can investigate me till the cows come home, it’s not going to back me off,” said Irsay, alongside a call from the Indianapolis Colts owner to remove Snyder from team ownership.

A Washington Commanders spokesperson released a statement critical of Irsay’s comments on Tuesday, claiming that Snyder wasn’t surprised that people continued to perpetuate “falsehoods” about him in the media.

“It is highly inappropriate, but not surprising, that Mr. Irsay opted to make statements publicly based on falsehoods in the media,” read the Commanders’ response. “It is unfortunate that Mr. Irsay decided to go public with his statement today, while an investigation is in process, and the team has had no opportunity to formally respond to allegations.

“The Commanders have made remarkable progress over the past two years. We are confident that, when he has an opportunity to see the actual evidence in this case, Mr. Irsay will conclude that there is no reason for the Snyders to consider selling the franchise. And they won’t.”

The NFL owners are currently attending their fall meetings in New York City, and the issue of Snyder’s threats and overall stretch of controversies has been one of the biggest stories hanging over the gathering of owners. Over recent NFL history, Snyder’s status as an owner has been questioned by fans around the league following multiple scandals and investigations into his team.

As of the current owners meetings, there are no plans to vote on Snyder’s future with the NFL — although voting him out as an owner would require 24 votes for yes from the 32 voters. Snyder is not present at this year’s meetings, with his wife and co-CEO Tanya Snyder representing the franchise this week alongside Commanders president Jason Wright.
