Daniel Jones free agency: Former Giants QB eliminates team from contention, per report
Cross one team off the list in the hunt to secure the services of free agent quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones, who cleared waivers Monday following his Friday release from the New York Giants (2-9), has eliminated the Las Vegas Raiders (2-9) as a potential destination, per Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports.
“The former #Giants’ QB is weighing substantial interest from multiple playoff teams, and wants to join a postseason contender,” Schultz wrote on X.
Las Vegas was one of four teams whom Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported would be interested in signing Jones. The other three were the Minnesota Vikings (9-2), San Francisco 49ers (5-6) and Baltimore Ravens (7-4). Currently, the Vikings and Ravens meet the criteria of being a postseason contender.

Daniel Jones sweepstakes continue after release from Giants
Still, it was worth a shot for the Raiders, who are set to be without Gardner Minshew for the remainder of the season with a broken collarbone. Either Desmond Ridder or Aidan O’Connell, who returned to practice Monday, will get the start on Black Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs (10-1).
Jones, meanwhile, will continue the search for his new home after requesting his release following his benching in favor of Tommy DeVito. The 27-year-old signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March 2023 after leading the Giants to the playoffs in 2022. Jones guided New York to a 9-6-1 record with a Wild Card Round win that season. But with Jones’ play falling off the last two seasons, New York made the decision to move on. Jones also had a $23 million injury guarantee for next season.
The No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Duke, Jones finished his Giants career with a 24-44-1 record and 70 touchdown passes to go along with 47 interceptions. New York will take on a $22.21 million dead cap hit in 2025.
