Darius Slay randomly calls out teammate Jordan Davis, Georgia

First-year Eagles defensive lineman Jordan Davis took a shot from teammate Darius Slay ahead of the Super Bowl. Speaking at the Super Bowl LVII media, Slay ribbed the rookie regarding their alma maters.

Slay attended Mississippi State and Davis went to Georgia, where he won a national championship in 2021. Both schools share the same mascot — the Bulldogs — but Slay made sure to let his teammate know where the real “Dawgs” reside.

“Hail State!” the cornerback said. “You know what I’m saying? Mississippi State got the Dawgs. The real, true Dawgs. Not Georgia Dawgs. Boo. Tell Jordan Davis I said that.”

Jordan Davis has yet to respond to Darius Slay’s message. However, he did tweet on Jan. 29 after the Eagles victory in the NFC Championship against San Francisco, suggesting that Philadelphia’s Super Bowl trip is due in part to the Georgia players on its roster, including fellow rookie Nakobe Dean.

“The Bulldog effect? @NakobeDean #GoDawgs#FlyEaglesFly,” he wrote.

Georgia went on to win a second straight national championship after Davis left for the NFL, so Slay’s shot isn’t exactly timely. Mississippi State has never won a national title, and it’s lone SEC championship came in 1941. Meanwhile, Georgia has 11 conference championships to its name as well as four national crowns.

The Eagles selected Davis 13th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has immediately made an impact, playing 13 games and starting five during the regular season to finish with 18 tackles. He has recorded four tackles in Philadelphia’s two postseason contests.

That was a big part in helping the Eagles finish with a league-best record of 14-3 and earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC. There they breezed through their two playoff games to win by an average margin of 27.5 points.

Kickoff for Super Bowl LVII between the Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.
