Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland is set to make his 2024 debut as the team has activated him off injured reserve, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. His status for the Cowboys’ upcoming game against the Atlanta Falcons is unknown.

The team confirmed the move, and in response to it, the Cowboys sent cornerback Amani Oruwariye to injured reserve due to a back injury he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers. Oruwariye will not be available for the next four games.

The Cowboys activated Bland’s 21-day practice window on Oct. 9. They had to make a decision today since it was the deadline, and if Bland was not activated off injured reserve, he would have been regulated to season-ending IR and could not return until the 2025 season.

Bland, 25, suffered a stress fracture during training camp and was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 27. He was expected to miss six to eight weeks. The former Fresno State star had a breakout 2023 season, recording nine interceptions with five of them returned for touchdowns.

Earlier this year, the All-Pro cornerback talked about his approaching heading into his third season. “It’s all been the same,” he said, per the Cowboys’ official website. “I always have the same expectations. It [did] improve my confidence, going into more years in this league as well. I’m going into my third year so, yeah, I’m more confident now.”

Bland also talked about having former NFL cornerback Al Harris on the coaching staff. “He’s been very key [to my development],” Bland said of Harris. “Coming in, you’re not always gonna have a coach that’ll give you that boost of confidence to tell you to go and get the ball — to tell you to go and do you. Having him in the room and as an assistant head coach, where everybody on the team can experience him now, has been great.”

The Cowboys selected Bland in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Bland tallied five interceptions, seven passes defended and 54 tackles.
