Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams gave shoutouts to his top five receivers in the NFL during a recent podcast. And one of his choices might surprise you.

He ranked the top five during a session of I Am Athlete. And he did so with this caveat:

“I’ll be real,” Davante Adams said. “I can’t say that anyone is better than me at my position in the league.”

So he’s 1A. Who might be 1B? That’s Justin Jefferson, who led the NFL with 128 receptions and 1,809 yards last year. At 23, he became the youngest receiver to lead the league in both those key categories. Davante Adams didn’t go out on a limb with that pick.

Tyreek Hill Miami

Stefon Diggs Buffalo

Calvin Ridley Jacksonville

Mike Evans Tampa Bay

CeeDee Lamb Dallas

Here’s why Davante Adams picked Jefferson:

“If I left myself out or I had to go 1B, I’d go Jets right now. He’s too consistent and he’s making really, really tough grabs. He’s got a different swag to him. He damned near changed the world with the Griddy. He’s not the founder, but he came through with the cele(bration) game.”

So, Adams gives extra props for the swag. See if for yourself.

Then there’s Tyreek Hill, the former Chief turned Dolphin.

“Rek, the way he’s doing it still. He went to a new place and he’s like me, he did exactly what he do,” Adams said. “It’s hard to argue with consistency and it’s hard to argue with dominance. And that’s what he’s been doing. He can effect the game in so many different ways. He’s fast and he runs a lot better routes than people give him credit for. Got really good feet. He’s a playmaker.”

The surprise on the list was Calvin Ridley, who served a year’s suspension in 2022 for gambling.

“I’m going to make some people mad with this one,” Davante Adams added. “Say whatever you want about last year, but it didn’t have anything to do with football. It was silly. He’s back this year and I think he’s going to have a really, really good year. As a receiver, we don’t control everything. We control our tape. Watch the boy’s tape. He’s doing stuff consistently with the routes.”

Then Adams split No. 5 into A and B.

“5A is Mike Evans, that shouldn’t make nobody mad,” Adams said. (And no one is mad).

“Then CeeDee Lamb. I like CeeDee Lamb a lot. When I’m picking it, I’m not picking it off of … what people want to hear.”

So, is it a good or bad list?
