Davante Adams might have seen his time with the Green Bay Packers come to a close, but the Pro Bowl receiver is still sending the team well wishes. After the team posted a photo of rookie second-round receiver Christian Watson to its Instagram on Saturday, Adams offered his endorsement in a reply.

“Kid gon be the truth,” he wrote.

After the Packers used the franchise tag on him this offseason, Davante Adams was unable to come to an agreement with the franchise on a long term extension. He instead requested a trade, and was later dealt to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a first and second round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

After taking linebacker Quay Walker and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt in the first round, the Packers traded up to No. 34 in the second to select Watson. The North Dakota State product projects to have a big role in the offense, which lost not only Adams, but Marquez Vadles-Scantling via free agency.

Watson was a part of four FCS championship teams during his time a NDSU in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. He finished this past season with 43 catches for 801 yards and seven touchdowns to earn second team All-American honors according to the AP.

Still, replacing the production of Adams will be no easy task. The Fresno State product proved himself one of the NFL’s best receivers over the past two seasons, in which he compiled a combined 2,937 yards and 29 touchdowns. He is set to reunite with his college quarterback, Derek Carr, and inked a five-year, $141 million contract that makes him the highest paid receiver in the league.

But at one point Adams was in Watson’s shoes, and who’s to say the rookie receiver isn’t the next big star for Green Bay? NFL Network was very high on the selection of Watson for the Packers, and there is a positive buzz in general ahead of his first NFL season.

“The Packers packaged the 53rd and 59th overall picks to climb up for Watson, a tall and agile receiver who offers the downfield speed they recently lost when Marques Valdes-Scantling left in free agency,” NFL Network wrote. “Dealing a mid-second-round pick to move up 19 spots was a steep price to pay, but that’s what the market demanded given the heavy focus on receivers. As the first of seven wideouts selected in the second round, the North Dakota State product will be compared with guys like Skyy Moore and George Pickens for years to come.”
