The handling of Aaron Rodgers‘ departure by the New York Jets surprised the entire NFL, even Davante Adams. He didn’t mince words while discussing the matter as he’s adjusting to life with the Los Angeles Rams.

According to Adams, he spoke with Rodgers before and after his meeting with the franchise’s brass. The quarterback was so angry that Adams thought he was being dramatic, but when all the information came to light, it certainly gave the wide receiver a new impression.

“We golfed together on a Wednesday [Feb. 5] in Vegas, at Shadow Creek, and then [Rodgers] told me he was going to [meet with the Jets] on Thursday [Feb. 6] and then come back and we’d play again Friday,” Adams told Mike Silver of The Athletic, per NBC Sports. “And he was just in such a bad mood [after the meeting] that he hit me up and was like, ‘I’m not coming back, bro.’ He’s like, ‘This was horrible; they just disrespected me completely.’

“I thought he was being a little dramatic at first. I’m like, ‘Bro, don’t paraphrase it. How did he say this?’ [But] that’s how he said it. And I was shocked because I didn’t think anybody had the balls to, for lack of better words, to hit him with it like that. Just flat out — ‘Yeah, I think we’re just gonna do something different. We’re gonna move in a different direction.’ It was shocking, but right from that moment, I knew there was no chance that I’d be back there.”

Alas, it’s understandable why the Jets’ new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey seemingly wanted to distance themselves from Rodgers, after his two seasons with the team were not up to par. However, it’s the way it all went down that soured Adams on the franchise, and put Rodgers in a terrible mood.

“I figured that when I flew across country on my dime, there would be a conversation,” Rodgers said regarding the Jets, via The Pat McAfee Show last week. “The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking … he runs out of the room. I’m like, that’s strange.

“Then he comes back with the GM, and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: You sure you wanna play football? And I said yes and he said ‘we’re going in another direction.’”

All told, Davante Adams ended up in a much better situation with the Los Angeles Rams, at least on paper. Aaron Rodgers? The world is still awaiting his decision, but he seems destined for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They face the Jets in 2025, so that’ll be interesting if it comes to fruition.
