While it might seem like an eventuality that Las Vegas Raiders star wideout Davante Adams gets traded, it’s by no means a guarantee. And ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the wideout could end up staying put.

The reasons, Schefter reported, center on the asking price the Raiders have on Adams and their unwillingness to pay the remainder of his contract. The Raiders reportedly want a 2nd round draft pick among other compensation for the 31-year-old wideout. Adams turns 32 on Christmas Eve.

And that confluence has led to a lack of “phone-is-ringing-off-the-hook interest,” according to one source Schefter spoke with.

Adams has also been recently injured, suffering a hamstring injury that has kept him out for the time being.

But while there are growing reasons for the Raiders to potentially hold on to Adams if the right deal doesn’t come along, there are obvious benefits to moving on from the wideout.

For one, the Raiders roster makes it hard to pin down what the team aspires to be — the offensive skill is that of a contending team, but holes elsewhere on the roster make that unrealistic, especially at quarterback. And the lack of young, promising talent — especially under center — also mean that Year 1 under head coach Antonio Pierce and Co. don’t seem to be embarking on the first steps of a years-long build.

Thus trading Adams, shedding his salary — Adams has a cap hit north of $23 million this season and it climbs to $44 million for the 2025 and 2026 seasons — and picking up draft capital would give the Raiders space to navigate and set a new course with a retooled roster.

But for now, though, that might still be a theoretical possibility as Adams remains firmly on the Raiders roster. And for all his desire to be traded elsewhere, if the organization can’t get a deal done it feels is worthwhile, it seems that could remain the case the rest of 2024.
