Former Michigan star Dax Hill had to wait longer than expected to hear his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft. During that wait, he had to think about his draft party plans.

He didn’t have any plans to move it back, and it was close. But ultimately, he became a first-round pick.

“I was trying to save myself the embarrassment of having to tell the people to come back,” Hill joked during his introductory press conference. “I was hoping the 30s would show up, call me.”

The Bengals selected Hill as the No. 31 overall pick, meaning he didn’t have to postpone his party or wait until day two. But it still made for a long wait, and he had to make sure he had the right mentality no matter where he was selected.

“With the uncertainty, I knew that was the biggest part of it,” Hill said. “I didn’t want to get too high or low. I was kind of getting a little antsy toward the end of it, but I was just ecstatic once I got that phone call. That’s all it was.

“I was just going throughout the night, just however I was feeling, it’s an opportunity for me whenever that is and I’m just going to make the most out of it.”

Dax Hill on how Michigan prepared him for the NFL

Cincinnati surprised everybody by representing the AFC in this year’s Super Bowl. The Bengals ended up coming up short of winning the game but will be looking to run it back during the 2022 season.

Roster improvement has been a goal offseason and drafting Michigan‘s Dax Hill in the first round was one of their top moves.

During his introductory press conference, Hill was asked how the Wolverines program prepared him for the NFL. The defensive back credited head coach Jim Harbaugh, saying all of the tough practices he went through have paid off.

“I definitely feel like Coach Harbaugh had me prepared and I appreciated it,” Hill said. “Now, in retrospect, seeing all the hard practices we did. It was kind of like a means to an end. I knew it was for a reason and it was for this reason right now. So, I feel like he definitely prepared me for this situation.”
