Daytona 500: Ryan Preece makes hilarious change to profile picture in light of second airborne wreck

With the laps ticking down in the Daytona 500, Ryan Preece found himself being wrecked and once again, flipping in the air. No grass on the backstretch and yet, Preece went airborne again. The NASCAR driver is taking it in stride though.
Ryan Preece has been involved in a number of violent hits in the last three seasons. That 2023 season was very harsh. He slammed into the side of Kyle Larson going 150+ MPH at Talladega after a big wreck. Then there was the flip in the grass at Daytona.
After drawing comparisons to Ryan Newman for his history of violent wrecks, Preece took it to another level. He’s embracing the Rocket Man moniker, but not for his qualifying speed. For his ability to go into orbit.
Preece’s new profile pic on X/Twitter now features his head photoshopped onto a NASA astronaut headshot. Perfect, no notes.
Last night was a scary moment once again at a superspeedway. These Next Gen cars have started to get into the habit of flipping. The first season of the car, it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Going back to just last year and one race into this season we have seen flips at Michigan, Daytona, Talladega, and then again at Daytona. It is becoming an issue.
Ryan Preece gets serious about safety after Daytona 500 wreck
Even without grass, Ryan Preece found himself flipping at Daytona once again. It was a violent wreck that started with Christopher Bell being turned into the outside wall and back down into Preece.

After the wreck, Preece was very serious. He felt that this was another incident that should have never occurred. His car did a wheelie and then flipped head over tail.
“I don’t know if it’s the diffuser or what that makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you walk outside on a windy day,” Preece said to Regan Smith. “When the car took off like that and it got real quiet all I thought about was my daughter. So, I’m lucky to walk away.
“But we’re getting really close to somebody not being able to. … It’s frustrating when you end your day like this.”
Clearly, Ryan Preece is taking this seriously. NASCAR has added different parts and flaps and things to keep the cars from flipping, but there is still work to be done. Moving forward it will be interesting to see how officials react to this flip.
