Deebo Samuel injury update: 49ers WR suffers new ailment vs. Cowboys
The San Francisco 49ers roster simply can’t seem to get healthy this year. And star wideout Deebo Samuel recently returned to the field after battling pneumonia recently. Unfortunately for 49ers fans, Samuel suffered an injury on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. He is questionable to return to the game, according to Melissa Stark of NBC who updated fans on his injury status.
“Mike, we’ve been talking all night about the health issues to the 49ers. Well, earlier in the game, we saw Deebo Samuel and the athletic training staff. They were working on him. Putting a heating lotion on his left wrist. We also saw him go into the medical tent a few minutes ago with the head athletic trainer and the team doctor. Official word from the team, he is questionable with a rib injury,” Stark explained.
The 49ers ended up winning the game 30-24, after the Cowboys battled back to make things interesting in the end. But San Francisco kneeled the ball and ran out the clock in the final minute.
Before leaving the game with his rib injury, Samuel had four carries for 15 yards on the ground. As a receiver, he hauled in four catches for 71 receiving yards.

Samuel came into Sunday’s Week 7 home tilt against the Kansas City Chiefs dealing with an illness he came down with during pregame drills. He exited the game early after being seen on the sideline wearing an oxygen mask and consulting with a doctor. Samuel played just four snaps in the 28-18 defeat.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Samuel “struggled to breathe,” prompting his removal from the game.
“Throat, stomach things, just real fatigued,” Shanahan said after the game. “Struggled to breathe, couldn’t catch his breath… He kept trying to fight through it. But once he was struggling with the breathing and everything, we had to shut him down.”
