Deion Sanders joined ESPN’s First Take broadcast in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX, where he addressed the ideal landing spot for his son Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft.
While the duo is letting the process work itself out, Coach Prime revealed that the former Colorado quarterback has a particular goal in mind, and that’s to be drafted higher than his father was. Deion Sanders was selected with pick No. 5 in the 1989 NFL Draft, so that leaves four chances for Shedeur to best his dad.
“Wherever. I’m putting this in God’s hands,” Deion Sanders told the First Take crew, regarding the ideal landing spot for Shedeur Sanders. “Sometimes we desire things that ain’t right for us. So, whether he goes No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3, he’s exceeded all expectations. We weren’t praying for No. 1. We were praying that, you know, we wanted to go in the first round in the pros.
“Now, he’s allowed me to understand that he wants to top his dad. So, his daddy was the fifth pick, so he wants to go No. 1 through No. 4.”
One of the teams where there’s been some smoke regarding Shedeur Sanders is the New York Giants, and they happen to have pick No. 3: “That’s a good spot,” Deion Sanders stated, regarding the possibly of his son ending up in the Big Apple.
All told, the Giants would be a nice double-whammy for the Sanders family, as it would allow Shedeur Sanders to be drafted higher than his father was, and he’d be walking into a situation brimming with potential for a rookie quarterback.

Not too long ago, First Take analyst Cam Newton actually championed the franchise as where the former Colorado star should be hoping to land, believing it makes too much sense for both sides, and it’s tough to argue with his rationalization.
“Talent-wise, I do think Cam Ward is more talented than Shedeur. If I’m Shedeur, that’s not something to shun away from. I wouldn’t want to go to Nashville if I was Shedeur. I would want to go to the Giants. … It’s a perfect fit. That aura,” Newton proclaimed.
“The thing that I do love about Shedeur is his ability to not waver, ‘He’s this, he’s that,’ his aura is engulfing. That can be intimidating, and when you think about all the teams in the league, there’s a handful of teams that will embody that. I can see everybody in New York [embracing him]. That’s who he is.”
Alas, there’s plenty of time between now and April’s 2025 NFL Draft, but the Sanders family isn’t being shy about their intentions. Whether Shedeur Sanders ends up in New York remains to be seen, but his father Deion Sanders will be watching with a keen eye, regardless of where he ends up.
