DeMarvion Overshown injury: Jerry Jones offers major update on Cowboys linebacker
Dallas Cowboys (5-8) linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered a right knee injury in Monday’s 27-20 Week 14 home defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals (5-8).
Team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan that Overshown will undergo an MRI, but they already know he will need surgery on his knee, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
The injury occurred as Overshown was attempting to make a tackle on Bengals running back Chase Brown. As Overshown engaged with guard Alex Cappa, another Bengals offensive lineman fell on his right leg. Overshown, who needed assistance to get off the field, was immediately taken to the X-ray room for examination.
Mike McCarthy gives grim outlook for DeMarvion Overshown’s knee injury
Head coach Mike McCarthy called the injury of “serious nature,” and that “it didn’t look good.” Overshown, the 2023 third-round pick out of Texas, missed his entire rookie season after sustaining a torn ACL in his left knee during the preseason. The 24-year-old made a full recovery and has been a bright spot on the Cowboys’ defense this season. Overshown has tallied 90 tackles (56 solo), eight tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, one pick six and a forced fumble.

Overshown is the third Cowboy to record at least five sacks, an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in the same season, joining DeMarcus Ware (2006) and Greg Ellis (1999), per Todd Archer of ESPN.
“Wouldn’t want this for anyone else! One of God’s Toughest Soldiers,” Overshown wrote on X. “Keep me in your prayers…”
Fellow linebacker Micah Parsons was emotional talking about Overshown’s injury after the game.
“I cried,” Parsons said. “That’s like my little bro, bro. He don’t deserve that either, he really don’t. So, just understand what he’s going to go through and to be there for him physically and mentally is so challenging because he’s so talented. The year he was having — I just don’t think that’s fair either.”
