Apparently, Chase Elliott isn’t the only one Denny Hamlin is blaming for the incident that unfolded during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway last Monday. The No. 11 driver believes FOX broadcaster Chris Myers also played a role in the incident.

During his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin mentioned that his team was only a handful of races away from setting a modern-era record for most lead-lap finishes in a row. And while Elliott is the primary culprit behind the end of that streak, Hamlin explained how Myers had a hand in the incident.

“You know who did it? Chris Myers. That a**hole,” Hamlin said. “He gave me the damn, ‘This kicker’s never missed an extra point in 762 (tries) … Oh he just shanked it!’ He did that to me.

“We had a little pre-race interview and he was talking about lead-lap finishes. … And I was like, ‘Thanks, Chris. You just gave me the announcer jinx.’ He did! Thanks a lot, Chris Myers.”

Hamlin’s run in the Coca-Cola 600 ended on Lap 186, when he and Elliott wrecked. The No. 11 car squeezed the No. 9, forcing Elliott to bump into the wall.

Elliott then retaliated, right-rear hooking Hamlin’s car and ending the race for both drivers. For the action, NASCAR suspended Elliott for this weekend’s Enjoy Illinois 300 in St. Louis.

We mostly think of the announcer jinx coming in one of the other major sports, but apparently it applies to NASCAR, too. Now, Myers is on the hook for ending Hamlin’s impressive streak.

Denny Hamlin puts Chase Elliott on blast

Hamlin has made it pretty clear that he’s furious with Elliott for throwing a “hissy fit” on the track in Monday’s Coca-Cola 600. He called for NASCAR to suspend the young driver, which it did for this weekend’s race.

The veteran has had no trouble speaking his mind on the subject, whether it came after the race or during his podcast.

“There’s no explanation that he could possibly give, which he didn’t, of reason for hanging a left. He obviously didn’t want to admit it,” said Hamlin during his podcast. “He did, ‘Ahh, I can’t hear you, sorry,’ and then, ‘Sorry, I can’t hear what you’re saying, but my car just couldn’t drive.’ B——t. The f—ing wheels were dead straight.

“Even after we crashed, and like destroyed our s—, he goes down the back straightaway and you look at the tires, the front tires are pointed the correct direction. I pointed out in the data that I tweeted that once he got into the wall, there was nothing wrong with his car. He turned the wheel back straight, like he was going down the straightaway, and you can tell by data whether you’ve got toe link damage or not.”

Nearly a week after the incident, Hamlin is still pretty fired up. We’ll see if it finally subsides after NASCAR issued a punishment to Elliott for this weekend’s race.
