Denny Hamlin calls out booing fans, double-birds after Xfinity win at Darlington
Denny Hamlin has never been shy with his opinions on racing, whether discussing his own incidents or those involving others. Because of that, for every fan he has made, there is another booing his success.
After winning Saturday’s Xfinity Series race at Darlington, Hamlin climbed out of his car to celebrate in front of a chorus of boos. The sight has become commonplace for him on the Cup Series as well, where he has two wins this season.
After spending time on victory lane, Hamlin took to social media to call out the fans who pray for his downfall each week. And those who flip him the bird when they see him.
“Booooooooooooooooooo,” he posted along with three images from the post-race celebration.
The first is a wide-shot of the track, Hamlin’s car, and the fans behind the finish line. The other two feature zoomed-in sections where fans can be seen showing him the double-bird, along with a few thumbs down.
Hamlin also noticed his fans in the image, later posted multiple patches of celebrating fans which can be found within the same wide-shot.
Whether a result of decades worth of on-track feuds, multiple off-track run-ins or his now-famous podcast – or a combination of the three – Hamlin has plenty NASCAR fans hoping he will not be able to repeat his Saturday finish on Sunday when it counts toward the playoff picture.

Denny Hamlin wins at Darlington
Denny Hamlin came in and stole one in the Xfinity Series over John Hunter Nemechek and Austin Hill at Darlington Raceway. The NASCAR Cup Series driver would steal the show on Saturday afternoon as his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate faced heartbreak again.
Between fighting off Austin Hill and Denny Hamlin, John Hunter Nemechek had his hands full. Late restart after restart, JHN had to hold his own and battle. Even when Hill got better pit stops off pit road, Nemechek fought back.
However, it was one restart too many. Denny Hamlin was fast and was not going to let the Xfinity Series drivers show him up in the closing laps. Hamlin is your Sport Clips 200 winner in the Sport Clips Toyota Supra.
This really was John Hunter Nemechek’s race to lose, once again. He won the pole award for the second time this year at Darlington. It just wasn’t enough. He led for most of the day, and fought Kyle Larson, Hill, and Hamlin, but that final restart was too much.
This was an example of a Cup Series driver outdueling less experienced and younger drivers. No shame in losing to one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers, after all. Kyle Busch was in this race as well as Ross Chastain. Larson had the speed to win but a bad carburetor put him multiple laps down and ruined his day.
