Denny Hamlin doesn't think Chevy is treating Jimmie Johnson's team fairly

Denny Hamlin is going to be manufacturer a teammate with Jimmie Johnson next season and that has him thinking. On the latest episode of Hamlin’s Actions Detrimental podcast, the NASCAR driver talked about LEGACY Motor Club and how their relationship is with Chevy.

In 2024, LEGACY MC will be with Toyota. That is a day that Johnson and his team are likely looking forward to. The last two years with Chevy have not been great, to say the least. In fact, based on the driver talent that the team has, it is shocking how poorly they have performed.

Noah Gragson isn’t even able to make the Rookie of the Year race with Ty Gibbs remotely interesting. Their rookie seasons have been a night and day difference. Denny Hamlin didn’t hold back when talking about the team’s struggles.

“Well they’ve been hit, they’ve been kicked in the balls, everything possible for that team this year,” Hamlin said on his podcast. “When you’ve got Noah Gragson saying I’m just counting down the days to the offseason and we’re not even halfway home? Ugh, yikes.”

With the change to Toyota, that relationship with Chevy is likely the worst it has ever been. Hamlin speculated whether the manufacturer would even be giving “reliable” information.

“I think that team obviously making an announcement going to Toyota next year, who knows what information they’re getting and whether that information is reliable anymore from whoever they have an alliance with but it’s been a tough year for them no question about it. On top of that now you’ve got Noah that got out due to an injury.”

Things have been much better for the two-car Toyota team that Denny Hamlin owns, that’s for sure.

Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing performing well

Maybe it is a numbers game when it comes to LEGACY MC and their Chevy issues. The company has a lot to focus on when it comes to its racing and performance ventures. They have the most cars in the Cup Series and that might spread resources thin.

Denny Hamlin’s two-car team has been doing very well this season. Tyler Reddick has a win and is in a great position for the postseason. Meanwhile, Bubba Wallace is on his way to getting in on points. When the JGR Toyotas are fast, the 23XI Toyotas are also fast and vice versa.

The addition of LEGACY MC will move Toyota up to eight full-time charters in the Cup Series. If you count the No. 67 entry for 23XI and the No. 84 car of Jimmie Johnson then it has ten total cars.

It seems that Denny Hamlin is more than fine with his future teammates coming to the supposed “Dark Side.” After all, having Seven-Time on your side can’t hurt, right?
