NASCAR’s Denny Hamlin decided to give Patrick Mahomes a shoutout prior to his Kansas City Chiefs attempting a three-peat in Super Bowl LIX this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Evidently, Hamlin has been putting his money on Mahomes’ Chiefs over the past couple of weeks, and it’s worked out tremendously for the veteran wheelman. During the latest episode of his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin elaborated on his success tailing the superstar quarterback, and how appreciative he is of Mahomes’ greatness.

“I’m going to have to look to see kind of where the public’s at on this thing. I rarely bet on the Chiefs, but there was nothing better in my life than betting on them over the last couple of weeks, and seeing that the best quarterback was carrying around my money,” Hamlin stated, regarding who he would be betting on during the Super Bowl this coming Sunday. “It was like, ‘Oh yeah, tie game? Two minutes to go? Cash this ticket. He’s going to go down [and win].’

“I heard an interesting stat, Trey Wingo said it. I’m sure you probably saw it. But in clutch game situations, right? This is, you’ve got to go down and score to either take the lead or tie the [game]. Some of the best quarterbacks in history accomplish this at about a 45% rate. Like, they’ve got the ball, go down, score to win the game, or score to tie the game and force overtime. Some of the best, like Drew Brees, was like a four-for-eight or something like that. He was one of the best, whatever. Peyton Manning, others were like three-for-seven. Patrick Mahomes is seven-for-seven. Seven-for-seven.

“So I’m like, ‘Why would I put my money in someone else’s hand?’ I’m going to put it in the guy that — Vegas is calling it a tight game. They say it’s going to be close. I’ll take the guy that’s seven-for-seven on game-winning drives. And that’s probably what I’ll do again. I’m not a Chiefs fan. I’m not on that bandwagon.”

When you boil it down, it’s tough to argue with those odds. Mahomes also has a win over the aforementioned Eagles in the Super Bowl as well, as he broke Philadelphia’s dreams just two years ago. Perhaps history will repeat itself, although Saquon Barkley wasn’t on the team when Mahomes and company were victorious the first time around.

One thing is for sure, it’s more than likely Denny Hamlin will be betting on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to get the job done. You’ve got to ride with the horse that got you to the dance. At least he’ll have Clint Bowyer’s support, as his fellow peer in the NASCAR world is a massive fan of Kansas City.
